Capture a piece of history with this vintage photograph dated 1934. The photograph features a stunning image of President Andrew Jackson's monument in Jackson Square, New Orleans, WITH THE HEAD CHOPPED OFF by vandals! This is the actual picture that was published by ACME news pictures Inc for use in newspapers covering the story.

Andrew Jackson, former president of the United states, and hero of the Battle of New Orleans, was a headless hero for a time in the historic place d'armes, Jackson Square, New Orleans. After two unsuccessful previous attempts, Vandals mounted the base of the equestrian statue, loosened the screw that held in the head casting to the body casting, and hurled the head to the ground.

They then knocked off the sword. Here is how the decapitated statue looked. Credit line Acme, February 24th 1934.
