Vintage Erwin Pottery Negatha P Black Americana French Peasant Powder Jar

Vintage Erwin Pottery Negatha P Black Americana French Peasant Hand Painted Powder Jar. It is initialed and hand painted in the French Peasant Design by Negatha Peterson. It is hard to measure but is about 7 across. The Powder Jar itself is about 2 1/2" tall and the lid with cane top is about 3 1/2" for a total of 6 in total height.

It is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks and I also see no crazing which I have found on many of our Erwin Pottery pieces. Since Negatha was doing well with her Mammy Cookie Jars she used an old Cane Topper Mold to add the little Black Americana head to powder jars and taller honey pots. She said that the cane top heads tended to slip so the jars were hard to make and the few she did make were experimental pieces. The lid fits a little wonky, as some of her lids do, so it is not a real tight fit.

The little girl's head did slip a bit when being made so a little off center. I took a picture of some small glazed over dips (for lack of the technical word) on the side which, I assume, are manufacturing flaws as I have seen them on other Erwin Pottery pieces. Not noticeable unless you are looking for them but I wanted you to be aware.

It has been lovingly kept behind glass doors in one of our corner cupboards and I hope you love it as much as we do. Refer to all of my pictures for a further description and please. Message me with any questions (or more information) that you may have.
