This is a very nice pair of black seamen or sailor andirons with the original log rests (firedogs) as well as a 2nd shorter pair I had made for a fireplace which was not as deep. I can not provide more history and I'm not sure how you ascertain the age of cast iron, so I won't try to represent them as 19th century. They stand 17 1/2" tall and about 11 1/2" wide at the feet. With the original log supports they are 22 deep.
I had a local blacksmith make log supports so they would fit my fireplace. The depth with the newer log supports is 16.
I mostly used them with gas logs, so they haven't endured much of a beating from my use (and I no longer have a fireplace). Pics #4, #11 & #12 show a comparison of the original and newer supports. Please examine the pictures closely and ask any questions. The item "VINTAGE CAST IRON BLACK AMERICANA FIREPLACE ANDIRONS FIRE DOGS SEAMEN/SAILORS" is in sale since Friday, July 14, 2017.
