The Pappy cast iron bank appears to be the middle or medium size version. It is rare to find these in a matching pair and listed together. Even more so, it is super rare to find them in such wonderful condition. As far as we can see, there are no identification marks on the banks.
However, the larger Aunt Jemima bank matches an 11 Hubley design from the 1920's to the 1940's. Another sign of age is found with the Phillips screw head which was patented in the 1930's. Please note that we list these banks as vintage based upon experience, knowledge, and similar comparisons. The colors on these coin banks are so fresh that one might think they have been painted. However, they do not appear to have remnants of old or worn colors. In addition, the design and application of the colors on these pieces match designs of previously offered banks like these - except the paint was worn and/or discolored. There are no breaks, cracks, or repair places on either of these cast iron coin banks. There are some places where the color has some light wear.
Also, there are some slight vintage wear and rub places on the coin banks. The decorative possibilities for these gorgeous cast iron Black Folk Art coin banks are many. Note on Measurements: All measurements are taken and described as close as possible with the garment laying flat. Explanation of Bust Measurement - the bust measurement is measuring across the chest of a flat garment from armpit to armpit and then double that measurement. Sometimes we enhance or edit our pictures for clarity and sharpness. Items that look dirty - some items simply look dirty. We want to assure our customers that we attempt to clean off all dirt and debris that we can see. However, in the past, we have tried too hard and ended up removing a valuable patina the piece had earned over the years.
We do our best to clean but we do not scrub - unless for something like a price tag on a ceramic dish. We clean our inventory of surface dirt and dust before we list it on our site. We would not want to receive something dirty so we are not going to send our customers something with original dust or dirt.Unless it is noted in the listing, we do not polish or repaint our inventory as many of our customers prefer the vintage patina look over a new painted or polished look. If there is a date of manufacturing listed - including year, time period, or century in which it was produced - many times it is an approximate only based on several factors and we in no way mean to mislead or misrepresent these beautiful treasures. As is common with pre-owned items they could have little marks that are not so easily detectable.
While I do personally inspect each item, I can miss small marks that may not show up with regular inside light. Just to help for peace of mind it is often good to remember that vintage wear and rub marks are virtually on anything preowned to a little or big extent.
We try to faithfully point out concerns so that you have no "0" surprises when your treasure arrives. Please pay close attention to the pictures as they may show more than I can explain. Hence, sometimes we can bump your package up to priority because it costs practically the same.It all depends on the postal service and destination. We do not promise this but we simply want you to know our store better. We are dedicated to our customers and always strive for your satisfaction. If you have a problem with your order please contact me. Please do not list a negative comment before I get the opportunity to help with the problem.
