The wood used to be covered by a thin fabric or paper which would form a "box". When the chest would be pressed, you would hear a squeak and the man would bring up his arm holding the large felt hat and tip it.
In his left hand he holds a bouquet of handmade paper and wire flowers. The fabric of the box is missing, again, probably due to age of the item, so he no longer squeaks. But push his chest and he still doffs his black hat. He also mentioned the good size of this beautiful toy. His hands and feet are made of wood, his head of composition material, and the facial features are hand-painted. A cotton-like material is glued on the head to simulate hair and eyebrows.
In my years of collecting, I have never seen another figure like this handsome gentleman, with the lovely addition of bearing flowers. This toy is very fragile, and I do believe this is why they are rarely seen, and especially one that is in this marvelous condition!
I would love for this personable and rare toy to go to someone who will appreciate him even more than I do.
