This wonderful all original Folk Art doll depicts a cotton picker, "Old Black Joe" from the 1920's or early 30's. It stands at 10.5 tall and features a walnut head with painted features and a wrapped wire body. His clothes are made from clothing & fabric scraps of the era and his hands are felt. He carries a cotton filled burlap sack and has a cane in his right hand.
His clothes have some tiny holes in spots and one of the suspender "strap" is actually missing a piece. He is old and shows age and is very rare.
His moustache has lost some of the cotton but half of it is still there. Otherwise this charming old doll is in very good condition for his age, all original with no restorations. The bottom of his feet have the original labels but on one the printing has faded away. I believe this doll was made by Itura "Love" Leigh from Grantville, GA where she handmade her "Loveleigh" dolls. Please look at all images as they are part of the description.
