RPPC African American Lynching

RPPC Lynching of an "Unidentified" African American Male. This original real picture postcard displays the lynching of an Unidentified African American Male.

He was stripped of his clothing, gagged and obviously torchered during this hanging. There is writing on the back of this postcard.

However due to the age of this piece, the writing has faded, making it difficult to read. Though we have conducted a noteworthy amount of research, we have been unable to identify the African American male pictured on this postcard. African Americans accounted for 72.7 percent of the people lynched. These numbers seem large, but it is known that not all of the lynchings were recorded. History also shows a large majority of lynching victims were innocent of the crimes they were accused of committing. Postmaster banned the mailing of lynching postcards. We work closely with collectors of Black Americana who have decades of experience in art, antiques, and collectibles. We list rare items frequently. Be sure to check out our other auctions.
