RARE Important Uncle Toms Cabin, Topsy Black Americana Lithograph Theater Poster.. We have just finished searching the internet every which way we could think of, trying to find another example like the 19.

Century Uncle Tom's Theater Poster we are listing tonight, with no luck. We even went to websites devoted to Uncle Tom's Cabin Theater Posters and they did not have an example of this "Topsy" Poster. I know why they are rare. They were printed on very fragile, thin paper, which was easily torn, especially with age.

This lithograph poster measures 21 ½" by 28 ¾" and is marked Mrs. Howard, The Original Topsy in Uncle Tom's Cabin. The first theater production of Harriet Beecher Stowes, Uncle Tom's Cabin was written by George C. The play premiered on September 27, 1852 at Peale's Museum in Troy, New York with a cast largely made up of family and friends of Howard's that included his four-year-old daughter, Cordelia and his wife Caroline. The play was a great success and ran for over three months. We guarantee that this poster is from that original three month theater production. This poster belongs in a museum and is most likely one of the only existing examples. We have posted close up photographs so you can see the small tears and staining to the lower right hand edges. There is a second tear between her feet and a third tear just below the word Mrs.
