ORIGINAL JAMES G BRAYTON NAPA CALIFORNIA'LULU CHAMBERS' AFRICAN AMERICAN BABY CARTE DE VISITE PHOTOGRAPH. This is a great piece.

This is a wonderful original photograph of an African American baby by early Napa California photographer James G Brayton. Brayton was active just after the Civil War in California and known for his views of the California landscape as well as his portraits. His portraits of African Americans are scarce and the only ones I have found are the examples that are pictured on the website for the National Museum of African American History and Culture. None of those 7 are of a baby like this one. This is a wonderful portrait with the image measuring 5 3/4 x 3 3/4 inches on original mount measuring 6 1/2 x 4 1/4 inches.

Photographers name and Napa, CAL notated at the bottom of the mount. Probably a more expensive example when produced as the edge of the card is scalloped all the way around. On the back of the card it is notated that the baby is named Lulu Chambers and has an original inscription from the period of the photograph. Really just a cool original photograph. CHECK THE PICTURES ON THIS GREAT PIECE.
