Offering a grouping of very rare 1952 Helsinki Summer Olympics USA Gold Medal winning sprinter Mae Faggs. Acquired by her for participation at the Summer Olympics. These items were part of the recently liquidated estate of Mae Faggs Starr of Woodlawn Ohio. There are items of clothing worn by her, her sprinters suit and shorts, her warm-up jacket with her Olympic id # 504, warm-up pants and pull-over jersey, a long wool coat, a pair of casual shoes that are color matched to her clothing. There is also a red Leather Purse with the 1952 Helsinki Games logo on a large metal closure.
Note, there is moth damage to most of the items as a result of not being properly stored over the years since the Games. Mae Faggs was part of the 4 member 400 meter relay sprint team that set an olympic record at the time and won the gold medal for that event. These items are made even more rare by the fact that of the nearly 5000 olympians in those 1952 games, less than 500 were women. The long coat has significant moth damage and would require much expert restoration to be fully restored. The sprinters suit has some moth damage on one side and some fading from being stored near something with red coloring, giving it a pinkish discoloration. The shorts also have moth damage on one side. Shorts makers label reads Lowe and Campbell Athletic Goods. Warmup clothing has Wilson Sporting Goods labels and the Leather Purse has Berkshire Enterprises with Top Grain Cowhide markings.Mae Faggs name is also hand written under the flap of the olympic metal logo on the purse. Further confirmation of her participation and performance results is readily available on the internet, particularly on Youtube. Needless to say these items are one of a kind, extremely rare and deserve to be restored and preserved because of their historical value to the Olympic Sports and to the USA. Mae Faggs and her team of sprinters, who ranged in age from 15 to 24 years (yes, 15) built upon the USA track and field olympic success and helped solidify the legacy of success for USA female sprinters trained as Tennessee Agricultural and Industrial State University (Tennessee State) " Tigerbelles " in Nashville, Tennessee.
