Rare 1897 Game Of In Dixie-land Cards No. 1118 Fireside Black Americana Images
For your consideration is this rare antique 119 year old black americana card game called Game Of In Dixie-Land. It is game number 1118, copyrighted 1897, by The Fireside Game Co. This highly collectable scarce game is 100% complete and in absolutely superb condition! The box displays wonderfully with no staining, crushing, rips, separated corners, etc. The cards are all MINT with no creases, bends, rips or stains.

It looks like this game has never been played with. All 52 of the playing cards are present with suits from A1 to A4 through M1 to M4. It also retains the crown card which functions as a wild card and a blank-front card for a total of all 54 cards. Each of the 52 playing cards contain photo-gravures of African American people in the American Deep South from the late 1800s, with captions beneath each photo such as: A Virginia Mammy, An Alabama Coon, Just in from the fields, Picking Cotton, In a Richmond Tobacco Factory, & Think you need a shine, Mister.

The back of each card depicts an alligator in the southern marshes, watermelons in each of the four corner, a possum hanging from a branch on the top and bottom and cotton plants filling in between the pictures. Definitely not a politically correct card game by todays standard but was deemed appropriate 119 years ago.

The instructions are on the inside of the box lid. It is a trick-taking card game where players call for cards to try to complete books. This extremely rare game hardly ever comes to market and when they do, they are often incomplete, heavily damaged and badly worn from 119 years of play. This stunning example is one of the nicest remaining! Please ask if you have any additional questions.
