Most of these items have been in the house for years and years, with some going back over four decades they have receipts going back to the 1970's! This is a pair of Black Americana spoons. Both are from Tennessee, one from Clarksville, the other from Chattanooga. The larger, almost five and half inches, has in the bowl a black boy sitting on a split rail fence eating a watermelon and has the work Clarksville above his head.

On the back of the stem it says sterling and has three hallmarks. The front handle itself is very ornate. It has the words Agriculture, Commerce, and Tennessee, and at the top is XVI [all these are from Tennessee's State Seal, where the Roman numeral XVI is to signify that Tennessee was the 16th state to enter the Union in 1796]. There's a man farming, a loaf of bread, ears of corn, and more. On the back of the handle is the American Eagle, Flag, and Shield.

The smaller spoon, just a smidge over four inches, has in the bowl Chattanooga, Tenn. The back of the stem is also labeled sterling with what may be a single hallmark to the left of the s. The handle of this spoon is a black boy eating a watermelon, where the melon is red and green, the shirt is blue, and the pants are brownish bronze. The back of the handle is the back of the boy but the colors are only on the front. The owner has had these so long in a box, they probably haven't seen sunlight in at least thirty years. Keeping in mind we are NO expert on these things, we think the condition of them are amazing. I've included a lot of pictures and a video. We want you to be sure that we're not hiding anything about the items and want to ensure that you see any and everything about them before you receive them.

Going back to subject of those pictures... Since we are far from experts in spoons or Black Americana, I included a LOT of pictures. I don't kid around with this stuff, especially not with a value like this. The curves and reflectivity of the spoons make taking good pictures of them to be very difficult.

We always say that you should feel free to ask for more or better pictures, but with these spoons, this is even more so. I took pictures with flash and without. Some of the pictures have an area that are very sharp and very blurry, these pictures were taken with a macro lens. So from the smaller pictures it may seem like there are duplicate photo's, but the full size pictures will have a different section of the spoon in focus with the macro lens. We just want to make sure that every nook and cranny, every potential blemish, is visible.
