This offering is for an antique late 18th to early 19th century hand wrought iron door lock or latch. The lock is not maker marked as far as I can see but was likely made in Pennsylvania. Similar examples can be found in Volume 1 of Early American Wrought Iron by Albert H. This beautiful example features an elaborate back plate with fancy cutwork edges, a double scroll shaped spring and chased designs on the fittings.
The back plate measures app. 4.5" high by 10.5" wide.
The condition is excellent with minor light scattered surface rust, and it looks like the very end of the key post in the lock clipped off. If additional photo's are needed or you have need of answers to questions we do not address we will be happy to supply them. WE USUALLY SEND OUR INVOICE WITHIN 1 HOUR OF THE AUCTIONS ENDING.
