A very scarce black Americana collectible! This antique Punch and Judy puppet is a character from the famous puppet shows who is known as Jim Crow (or also the black man). Jim Crow puppet began to appear in the Punch and Judy shows around 1825 and has been seldom seen since 1942. He is often seen as a servant or sometimes a foreigner who was known for saying Shallaballa. This antique Black Americana puppet has a masterfully, carved, detailed, wooden head as well as wooden hands and feet.

Standing 17 in height this Punch and Judy puppet is also larger than the more common, contemporary sets of puppets that were produced later that century or the early 20th century. The late smaller version from a late 19th century or early 20th century.
