Priest was the first person of African descent to graduate from Columbia. He graduated from the "School of Mines" at Columbia College.
This was basically the equivalent of an engineering degree back in the 1870's. This is a huge, mounted albumen photograph, a so-called imperial cabinet photograph. Some notations on the back of the large mount board. Photograph itself measures 13 3/8 inches across and the board is slightly wider!
