Antique 19th century, 1860s, original sixth plate relievio ambrotype. Depicts a great outdoor city street scene with the focal point being a two story brick building covered with ivy and surrounded by an iron gate. A man is standing out front smoking and a woman can be seen inside looking out the window.
To the right of the building more city structures can be seen. A nice architectural ambrotype and a rare image of a city steet scene. Image is on glass and visible when backed with black, in this case a piece of cutout black paper. When the backing is removed the image appears clear. Protected behind glass in a brass mat And preserver.Housed in a full leatherette case. Image is crisp and displays nicely. Shows some gentle discoloring in areas but it almost gives the appearance of being hand tinted. Mat is bright and clean.
Preserver shows oxidizing in areas. Full case shows exterior wear and is repaired with tape at the hinge by a previous owner.Measures 3 1/4" x 2 3/4". Case measures 3 3/4" x 3 1/4" x 7/8 thick.
