Clara Busby Black History 1st African American Owner Dress Shop Lansing MI RPPC

Amazing historic vintage 1940s RPPC (Real Photo Postcard) of Clara Busby with a customer in her dress shop called Westside Apparel Shop in Lansing, Michigan. Busby was the first black owner and operator of a Lansing women's shop! Previously, in the 1930s, she was the first black woman hired by the Reo Motor Car Co. In the 1950s, she and her husband, the late Grover Busby, operated Lansing's first black full service restaurant, the Black Forest Restaurant. She was also the first black licensed female Realtor in the area. See above photos for more details and a picture from her obituary which is not included with the postcard.
