Face at one time the glue must have dried out and someone re-glued it , not too well as it is offset a little. I don't think the wood was broken as the entire front of the face equally was separated, as if it was a separate piece glued onto the base head form.
A small chip of edge wood missing upper left side of face- can be seen in photo. Nonetheless- For an item this old- In very very nice condition! Trade Mark of Horse & Buggy - Medals 29 Diplomas Award, Clough & Burrell's 1864.
Rare item that will not be seen again- If ever! We take pride in our Antiques and Collectibles.
