Charleston Slave Tag

This 2 1/4 square, AUTHENTIC 1817 Charleston slave tag was issued as a servant status tag, allowing slave #114's services to be marketed for the benefit of his or her master. This tag was found in barn rafters in Georgia, in the 1970's when it was already 160 years old.

Holding this piece of significant history from 200 years ago invokes a feeling of awe and compassion.
