A VERY RARE VICTORIAN FIGURE OF A BLACK BOY CLIMBING A TREE WITH A SPEAR HUNTING A BEAR - THERMOMETER MADE BY HEYDE OF GERMANY AND DATING TO C1900 - WONDERFUL. This is an extraordinary Victorian figure of a black boy who is climbing a tree with a spear. He is hunting a bear which stands on its hind legs.

The base is decorated with grass and ferns. The figure was probably made by Heyde of Germany c1900.

It is made of spelter, a mixed metal, and cold painted. The figure is in very good condition with some paint loss commensurate with its age. I have never noticed this before but the base may have been broken off at some time and the back part missing. I have not noticed this before and there is green paint on the edge so it may be an original casting flaw. The figure is 4 inches (10 cm) tall.

The tree is 85 mm tall. The base is 3 1/2 inches (90 mm) long. If you are looking for a truly fantastic quality antique, one with history drama style and a great investment piece you will be thrilled.
