For your consideration, this is an antique (4th quarter 19th century) cast iron black jockey hitching post (lawn jockey) in original with slight modification to paint and standing at 36 1/2 including the pedestal. The jockey figure stands at approximately 23 1/2" and the pedestal measures at 10 1/4" x 10 1/4 on the upper (foot standing area) flat. The bottom of the pedestal base measures at 9 3/4" x 9 3/4". The pedestal also retains traces of the original white paint.
The total weight of this museum-quality jockey hitching post is just over 60 lbs. There does appear to have been an attempt to repair the gap on the one arm where the two (2) pieces of cast iron join. Please review all pictures carefully for your personal assessment as to overall condition for your collecting requirements. Item has mellow patina to the paint, some requisite wear to the surfaces and the inclusion of the original iron hitching ring made this piece irresistible. We believe that the right collector will appreciate the attributes of this (our opinion) " Best " black jockey hitching post.
