ANTIQUE BLACK AMERICANA! BLACK BOY ON BENCH READING THE TIMES 1860's

This is a REMARKABLE and RARE COLLECTION OF BLACK AMERICANA TOYS. FIVE PIECES MAKE UP THE COLLECTION which heavily features four caricatures of Black children in various states, running amok. Cigarettes dangle from the children's mouths which are painted red.

Of special import is the Black man sitting on a bench reading "THE TIMES" while smoking a cigarette. Attired in breeches, minus shirt and shoes, this figure is REMARKABLE for its DETAIL and INCREDIBLE for its BOLD DEPICTION OF AN EDUCATED "COLORED" at that time in history--especially an educated male. The figurines have been painted a coal black and posses red lips and white eyes. They each have remarkable hand detail for a MINIATURE!!! He states that she used to play with these when she was child.
