This is a Black Americana Chalkware Mechanical Bank Nodder. The bank measures approximately 8" long by 5" wide and is 10 tall.
The Condition is fair to good with age appropriate wear. Original finish shows age with paint loss, including some heavier wear around the shoulder and some chips on the left shoulder and around the head. The child's head nods when a coin is inserted but the counterweight appears to be missing. The size of the bank indicates that it may have been used on the counter of a county store.I don't know why there is a German note on the front, it says something about the Papal Saint of Children. It may have been in German because in Pennsylvania, many people used German up to the late 1800's and early 1900s in Berks and Lancaster County. Even in it's condition, it's still a very rare example of an early Black Americana Mechanical Bank. Antique Black Americana 13 Chalkware Mechanical Bank Nodder circa 1890.
