Intriguing antique, 1904, original mounted photograph depicting an interesting city bar/restaurant scene consisting of 4 white male waiters or restaurant workers, a woman waitress, a man in a firefighter or train conductor formal uniform and a muscular African American man posing together out front of a bar, restaurant or similar city venue. No identifying markings that I can note but I was able to make out the theater poster in the window that is advertising After Midnight at the opera house.
Also above the black man is an old Smiths Brewing Co Beer sign. Perhaps these two bits of information can help narrow down a location. Period ink inscription on verso reads November 1904. This image is a bit hard to see. Displays most similar to photos 1 and 2.
Shows a scratch on left edge. Mat shows gentle wear and staining. Image measures 5 1/2" x 3 7/8" and 8 3/8" x 6 3/8" with the mat. Comes housed in a rigid clear protective archival sleeve.
