In 1864 President Abraham Lincoln allowed the artist Francis Bicknell Carpenter unprecedented access to the Executive Mansion for six months and during this period he completed a monumental painting titled First Reading of the Emancipation Proclamation of President Lincoln. We have added a photograph of this famous painting down below. After this painting was exhibited in the Capitol, the nearly panoramic work went on a national tour during which small handbills were passed out to promote its exposure. This particular handbill was promoting its exhibition at 135 Chestnut Street in Philadelphia and admission to see the painting as 30 cents per person. Measuring just under 5 ½" long by 4" wide this small 19thC handbill is in wonderful original condition. There are no tears or repairs however there is a small hole at the top from where this was once mounted or hung. This authentic Americana Handbill is printed on early paper and you will find that it has been listed without any reserve!
