African American Civil War Soldier 1860 Veteran GAR Medal Tintype Black Buffalo
DETAILS: Original sixth plate tintype photograph of an African American in formal attire with a Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) medal affixed to his jacket. Note that his overcoat has a dual colored back lapel collar. Also he is wearing a separate jacket and vest underneath his overcoat with the chain of his pocket watch hanging off his vest pocket. Because of his relatively youthful age, we believe that he is a recently discharged Civil War soldier who had been awarded the GAR medal. Measures 2.5" x 3.5" inches. Oxxbridge Galleries was founded in 1987 and specializes in vintage paper items with a large selection of historical and 19th Century tintypes, daguerreotypes, ambrotypes, cabinet cards, carte des visites and other types of early photography.
