Offers are considered on this item. For sale today is this beautiful piece of American history. This is a hand carved walnut pipe, carved in the second half of the 1800's by a black American in South Carolina.
The cup is designed as a tulip with the stem bearing a small man riding an aligator. This piece is especially special, because it has the threaded chicken bone mouth stem.
Being chicken bone, most dried out and were broken or lost. This piece appears to actually had some use after it was made as it has charring as shown in the cup pics. Beautiful condition, still has dust from when it was found. We don't clean collectibles or art. Only real flaw is he is missing a foot. But I think actually having the stem intact more than makes up for that. Pictures don't do this piece justice. We are considering offers on this piece of American folk art. Feel free, worst we can do is say no.We are a real brick and mortar coin shop located in Sycamore, IL. So you can rest assured that we will be here to take care of our customers should an issue arise.
