1934 Mission Reds PCL baseball snap shot. Shine Scott, George Wolfman and Bud Hafey. He got his freedom during the American Civil War.

Shine became what was known as "contraband" after his freedom. "Contraband" were African Americans who were freed due to circumstances of Union troop occupation and travelled along with Union Troops. Little is known about Shine outside his Pacific Coast League history of him. If he played negro league baseball, the history is lost. Shine was a PCL trainer for many years.

He was well known and loved by the players for his story telling. Bud Hafey played MLB 3 seasons after this image. Wolfman went on to coach the Cal Bears. Photo is about 2 by 4 inch. Feel free to ask questions.

The info on Shine Scott has disappeared from the internet. As far as I know, this is the only known history at this point. Yet I hear about living local people during black history month on local Detroit news stations as if the previous stuff has already been covered.
