1890's Reverend John H Hector and family. John served in the US Civil War in the 11th US Colored Troops as a drummer. He was a well known speaker after his service.

John was involved in the temperance movement. John was also tied to the family of John Brown. John Brown is credited by many as the finally spark that started the US Civil War.

Brown planned to free and arm the slaves of the US starting in Harpers Ferry West Virginia. There are known images of John with Brown's son Jason.

According to obituaries Reverend John Hector was an avid baseball fan. He was said to never miss a game. Hector spent a good portion of his life in York Pennsylvania.
