Very rare and original, 1861 fully Manuscript Civil War period Slavery Document from the City of Jefferson in the State of Texas being a Bill of Sale for a 15 year old African American Girl named Julia. This business like and matter-of-fact, Slave Bill of Sale Document is written on a piece of light blue writing paper measuring approx.
The Bill of Sale is dated June 17th, 1861 and appears to have been written by an unknown person and signed by Virginia M. Morgan and witnessed by C. Jefferson, Texas June 17th, 1861 of James Dowelle seven hundred dollars for one negro Girl by the name of Julia of dark complexion aged about fifteen years old and in consideration there of I warrant the title of the said negro girl to be clear & that she is sound, healthy & servsible(sic).
This very rare, 1861 Texas Slave Bill of Sale / Slavery Document is in very good condition - intact and complete with folds as filed and with some edge wear. There is a small ink smudge and some age toning at the folds on the back side of the sheet. The manuscript text is dark and bold and easily readable.
