RARE, Vintage 1952 Saralee Doll from Ideal. For your purchasing consideration comes a truly rare and historic treasure from my dwindling doll vault. A 1952 Saralee doll in near MINT condition.
THIS IS NOT A REPLICA! Heralded as the first anthropologically correct doll , the 17-inch Saralee was groundbreaking as the first Negro doll of its time to be released by a major U. Toy company, albeit in limited release.Saralees vinyl face and limbs have retained their matte finish and her molded hair is devoid of any rubs. She has an immaculately clean, soft-stuffed body with an inner non-working crier. The delicate paper diaphragm in the crier mechanism deteriorates in all early eras dolls.
Meanwhile, her clothing is ALL ORIGINAL and untorn , consisting of a dress and matching bonnet with slip and matching pantaloons. She further includes her RARELY found oil cloth shoes. SHE HAS NEVER BEEN UNDRESSED!As Saralee is an ANTIQUE , please note that there is an overall age patina to the dress and bonnet, and two light stains on the bodice of the dress (one, as seen in the picture of her shoes). I will leave it to her new owner to decide whether to attempt light cleaning on this historical treasure. Otherwise, Saralee has held up remarkably well over time.
