Reverend Whitman was the son of Trinitarian minister Bernard Whitman and brother of Unitarian Ministers Nathaniel and Bernard Whitman. Jason also had a son John Fairfield Whitman who served in the United States Navy during and after the Civil War and played an important roll in the Battle of Natural Bridge near Tallahassee, Florida.

Minnie was a director, secretary and general manager of that society for twenty-five years, resigning her position as general manager in 1911. The family spent over two years from 1876 to 1878 in Pernambuco, Brazil where Bernard was engaged in building extensions to the Pernambuco Street Railway. It is in this period that Ned Whitman, pictured as a baby in this Photograph, was born. This wonderful CDV Photograph is in excellent condition - The Image exhibits sharp focus, strong contrast and good tonality although it is just a bit light.
