ANTIQUE BOUDOIR CARD PHOTOGRAPH OF A CHILD, ATTIRED WITH A WOODEN BARREL, HAPPILY PLUCKING AWAY AT A STRINGED BROOM, WHILE A STUFFED ALLIGATOR PROVIDES THE SHEET MUSIC. We understand this photograph was a symbol of racism of the time. Its a bizarre surrealistic creation that says a lot more about its creators than it does about black (African American) youth. This child was obviously recruited to play a role, but someone had to 1 attire him with a wooden barrel, 2 string a broom, and 3 set up a stuffed alligator, etc... Text at bottom of photo: WE ARE NATIVES.

" At lower left of photo: "SHAW & SONS PHOTO" and at lower right: "4. Stamped on back: PHOTOGRAPHED BY SHAW & SONS, 77 1/2 W. Approximately 8 1/2 x 5 1/4 inches. Other small spots and some soiling. When tilted, a few scuff marks are noticeable.

The diagonal line from left edge, through bottom of barrel and alligator, appears to be in the production. Foxing and soiling, front and back. Very good details - lots to look at.
