Antique Vintage Carte de Visite CDV African-American Lady 1860s Holding Book
This is a carte-de-visite of a rather dour looking African-American woman seated wearing a long dress and a turban. She is holding a large book on her lap. The back reads Perry & Loveridge, Savannah, GA. I have no idea as to who the lady might be, but I will make a GUESS. I found it in a large box of paper ephemera ranging from the 1820s to the late 1860s. I would guess that since the carte was printed in Georgia that it was done after the Civil War (probably late 1860s). The various items letters, receipts, bills, etc. Dealt for the most part with three local ie. Winchester & Norfolk, Connecticut prominent families.

The Bronsons, the Welches, and the Pettibones. Ira Pettibone was a long time abolitionist who went south after the Civil War and ran a school for Freedmen for a while. Could this be one of his students?

Even small books going to other countries are expensive; heavier books are outrageously expensive. If you are in another country, please keep this in mind.
