Antique J&E Stevens Cast Iron I always did spise a Mule Mechanical Bank NICE
For many Cast Iron Bank Collectors, this guy is the Holy Grail so take a good look! The paint and colors of the paint are still very nice. It has the embossed words "I always did'spice a Mule" along the feet of the mule and the boy sitting on the Bench. The patent date is stamped into the base of the bank on the underside.

J&E Stevens was founded in Cromwell. And is the oldest toy company in. It is renowned for its mechanical banks but it also produced quite a few still banks as well. It produced banks from 1870 until the depression forced its closure in the early 30s. The craftsmanship and casting detail, as well as the mechanical function design, is excellent.

To activate the mechanical function, and build your bank account, you put a coin under the bench then depress the button underneath the mule and the mule spins around and kicking the boy, knocking him backwards and depositing the going into the bank slot. This function works good as new and as intended. Overall condition is very nice - appears 100% original, does not in anyway appear restored, repainted, touched up, repaired or altered in any way. Missing the metal piece that holds the coins in.

It has a very nice patina with no rust. The various parts are all in place, tight and align well and as intended. The mechanical device works exceptionally well with good spring action. It stands 6" tall at highest point and is 10 1/8" long. Y one in every way. Please let me know if you have any questions or comments!
