Antique 19th c. Victorian African American Black Hand-Tinted Portrait RARE
A very rare framed cabinet photograph of an African-American 19th c. Victorian couple, presumably husband and wife.
Photograph is hand tinted and mounted in an oval frame which also appears to be original. Photograph is a bit loose in the frame, and would do well with new backing paper. Frame is missing the beveled glass, probably lost long ago. Minor water damage on the photograph, please see photos carefully.
The subject matter of this portrait, an affluent African American couple during the Reconstruction Post-Civil war period is very special and rare. Definitely a charming and interesting example of Black American history.The portrait, including frame, is approximately 12 3/4 x 18 3/4 inches.
