Rare and original, ca1890's Black Americana, Cast Iron Horse Drawn Plantation Wagon believed to have been manufactured by the Wilkins Toy Company of Keene, New Hampshire. The Toy offered here is a early version of the Plantation Wagon with cast iron wheels, a stake bed Hay Wagon type body and is pulled by a horse with a real, horse hair tail. The Toy retains its original, African American / Black Standing Driver. This early, Cast Iron Horse Drawn Vehicle measures 10 1/2 long overall by 5 1/4" tall (to the top of the horses ears) by 4 1/4" wide. The wagon is drawn by a single, separately cast, black horse which are attached to the front wheels and undercarriage by a heavy, spring like iron clip and original, stiff wire reins run from the horses bridle to the hands of the driver. There is a single wheel beneath the horse that appears to be replaced and the original driver stands upright in the bed of the Cart. This very rare and attractive, Wilkins Toy Company Cast Iron Hay Dray type Horse Drawn Wagon is in good to very good condition. There are no crack, breaks, chips, repairs or physical damage of any kind. The Wagon retains its original removable driver and retains 60%+ of its original surface paint. The horse, undercarriage and the front wheels retain only remnants of their original paint. As stated above the single wheel under the horse is replaced and a small piece of iron has been added to the bottom of the foot of the Driver as he has lost the original piece that locked him into an upright position on the floor of the Wagon.
